Welcome to Mina’s Journal

Hi there,

My name is Jasmina Haskovic and I am a photographer and writer based in London. In 2020 I wrote a poetry book called "ask the butterfly".

I moved to London to follow my dreams to become a photographer and writer, but to survive here I ended up having a full time job in dentistry. In the past 9 years, I went from being a trainee dental nurse to managing a private dental practice. I met some amazing people and managed to make some real friendships. Living in London on my own I worked very hard to afford my own rented home and everything that goes with it. I never forgot about my passions but somehow it was very difficult to break a circle and take a risk. It was hard to come out of my comfort zone.

But after my NDE back in January 2022, I knew I had to do something. I wasn't the same person I was before my car accident. I changed. In the months that followed nothing was right and I did not feel I belong anywhere. Even so, I came out alive without a single scratch and broken bones, thanks to a complete stranger, things did not feel right. I did not feel right. It took me months of journaling, conversations with friends, a therapist and a loving and supporting partner to process what happened. And in all honesty, I am still processing and I might never process it, but life goes on and so do we. If I learnt one single thing after NDE, is that life is short. Very short. And this is where Mina's Journal will step in.

About Mina’s Journal

It's a newsletter about personal life thoughts for everyone who needs some entertainment or random read about little things in someone else's life, while you are having a cup of hot tea or coffee and chocolate or cake.

This newsletter is free for everyone, but here and there I might add some more personal posts and these will be for paid subscribers only. When and if this will happen I don’t know, but let’s say it will be random.

About “ask the butterfly”

This is my first poetry book and my first attempt to share my work with the world. ask the butterfly is showing the journey of the girl who finds and becomes the woman she had always been before she somehow lost herself and forgot who she was. Each poem has an accompanying photo of the girl or woman, depending on the readers’ experience of the poetry. With this book I wanted to show that no matter on the relathionship, there is always a beginning after an end. And end after beginning. And beginning after an end and so on. It's a circle of life. We always move forward. This little poetry book joins my two biggest loves, my love towards photography and my love towards writing.

Mina's Journal is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
